Welcome to the new Keeping Up Appearances forum, where everyone is welcome no matter where you come from.
The show was first broadcast in 1990 and finished in 1995, and lasted 45 episodes, and 4 christmas specials.
The reason it ended so soon was Patricia, a.k.a. Hyacinth, wanted to move onto new projects, which is understandable because life is all about variety and taking on new challenges.
Most of the cast have passed on - George Webb, Geoffrey Hughes, Mary Millar and recently Clive Swift.
However, the BBC continues to flog this wonderful show, through UKTV mostly - I'm not sure Patricia would have intended for it to still be succesful in 2019 but I personally think what was so unique about the format is that snobbery has little place in this modern age, what with smartphones and the internet being a background for people to berate the more fortunate.
Old traditions like Hyacinth's are going out of the window and I do think the show was captured at the right time because it probably wouldn't have worked so well had it been produced at any other time.
